If you are already using another data provider and you switch to Cornwall Data Backup Service we will give you at least six months of the same service free* of charge. We are not interested in short-term profit but long term customer relationships.
We will simply require proof of your existing contract or your latest Invoice and we will give you that service 100% free for six months. If you are already in a contract we will add up to an extra four months to encourage you to switch now!
For example if your current contract was £50.00 PCM until 01/02/2009 we would give free service up until your contract expiry date, then the six month period. That way you can pay off your existing contract monthly, cease using the service straight away and start using our service.
We will also throw in free remote setup and on-site seed backup if necessary!
What's the Catch? We simply ask that you sign a 12-month contract from the date of your existing contract expiry date and we will beat the existing price by at least 30% also and guarantee that you price will remain cheaper than your existing contract for 12-months after that - so you won't get a sudden price increase.
The amount of backup and services provided 'free' will match your existing contract* if you do increase your storage requirements, you will simply pay the difference as you would normally*.

This service comes as either a package as part of our existing IT Support Arrangement or as a stand alone product if you wish to get IT Support elsewhere. You can choose from either a self managed service or a fully managed service.
The backups are taken using the latest software All data is backed up using a 64-256-bit Block Cipher Blowfish Encryption Algorithm meaning your data is secure as this encryption technology has never been broken before. This level of security ensures that not even our own staff can read or access your secure data to ensure we are fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 1998.
We are offering a comprehensive remote backup solution for desktops, laptops & servers. Server backups include SQL Backup, Exchange Server Backup, Active Directory/System State Backup and MySQL Backup in Windows or Linux.
With our solution you can either backup direct to our server here in Cornwall or you can run your own in-house backup server. Backup all your desktops and laptops to your central server and than have those servers backed up and copy the desktop backups to our server here.
Self Managed Backup Solutions
If you wish to monitor your own backup server, you or your IT Support personnel will receive a backup log each day by email for you to check over. We can then provide either remote or onsite technical support at our standard hourly rates.
Fully Managed backup Solutions
All our IT Support customers get the fully managed service as part of their existing Service Level Agreement. For non supported customers we charge a small monthly fee to monitor the jobs daily. You get all relevant support at no extra charge and includes the on-site return of data on suitable media within 2-12 hours dependant on your location when needed.

For customers that wish to not be tied to a long-term contract we offer a no-ties service subject to a £20 deposit which is refunded should you end up staying the full twelve months. Payment is made by Direct Debit or Credit Card - 1 month in advance.

1. We backup our servers to a secondary off-site replication server. We also offer the service to have your data replicated to a secondary server held on our leased servers in a state of the art, secure Data Centre in the London area.
2. Our servers run on servers which feature redundant disks and other redundancy technology. The software we use to facility the data transfers (StoreGrid) is hosted on a highly-available virtual machine held in a cluster of servers to ensure minimal interruptions to your data transfer.
3. We operate multiple independent high-speed internet connections with a 4 hr 24x7 Service Level Agreement from our ISP, this provides us maximum upload/download bandwidth but also redundancy in the case of a line fault. We use round robin DNS records hosted by DNSMadeEasy.com who have a 100% uptime record to provide a load-balancing effect and to ensure your servers can always find us even if we switch connections! This gives our customers the quickest restore and backup times we can possibly manage at the lowest price.
In spring 2009 we are planning on moving to new Truro offices which will be within range of planned BT services to offer even quicker lines to businesses and we will be ready to take advantage of that as our customer base grows.
4. Microsoft Certified Gold Partners are the highest Partners within the Microsoft Partner programme. To meet the criteria of becoming a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, SW Computers Ltd (Cornwall Backup Service parent company) had to pass Customer Satisfaction Surveys conducted by Microsoft, Submit Case-Studies and References as well as maintain the correct levels of Microsoft Certified Professionals within their key competencies. That may explain why there is currently only three Microsoft Gold Certified Partners within Cornwall with SW Computers Ltd being one of them!
5. We backup ourselves across our cluster of three physical servers but also daily onto a series of external 1TB hard drives which are then stored off-site, we choose external hard drives due to their cost effective means of expanding our backup needs, but also the speed in which data can be stored and retrieves from an external hard drive. We can also transfer data to common backup tapes such as DAT 72, DAT 160, DDS-4 etc if needed.
6. All our servers are supplied power cleanly through UPS Backup Batteries which also run our routers meaning our internet connection will be maintained during short power outages. In the last 2 years we have had less than 10 min’s loss of power at our address. In the event of long-term power outage.
In the event of a long-term power outage our replication server can be switched over to provide continued protection.
As we utilize advanced Hyper-X technology we can easily port our ‘servers’ onto laptops and combined with our NAS (Network Attached Storage) we can have a new ad-hoc data centre operating very quickly if needed.
7. All our external hard drives, DVD media, restore information etc is held in Phoenix Fire Fighter 4013 safes at our offices. The office itself is secured by two doors from the outside, servers are physically attached to the racking and the office is air conditioned automatically should the internal temperature reach a certain level.

Intelli Delta Technology for Incremental Backups
The ability to intelligently handle incremental data is a key component of any backup solution! Especially since this has huge implications on performance and infra structural and operational costs- bandwidth and storage costs being the most crucial of these!
Our Intelli-Delta technology, based on the powerful & proven RSYNC algorithm, ensures that after the first 'seed' backup, only 'optimized byte level' changes in individual files & folders are backed up thereafter. Most backup software implement incremental backups in fixed block sizes (eg. 4K blocks). In effect, they divide files into blocks of a pre decided size, examine CHECKSUMS of blocks that are detected to have changed and retransmit the changed blocks!
StoreGrid's Intelli-Delta technology goes one, actually, two steps further. StoreGrid does not implement pre decided block sizes as this is often sub-optimal. For a small file, the block size may be too large and hence translate to a larger amount of data being sent than what's required. For very large files, a small block size translates to performance degradation. StoreGrid decides on individually optimal block sizes for every single file after taking into account the original file size. This ensures that for each file, changes are examined at an 'optimized byte level'.
Additionally, StoreGrid also leverages RSYNC's powerful ROLLING CHECKSUM feature - going one more step ahead of conventional approaches to incremental backups.

System State / Active Directory Backup
System State / Active Directory backups in StoreGrid are treated like any other data backup. StoreGrid's 1-Click selection of preset backups now includes the system state / active directory allowing you to simply select it with 1-Click.
This is in line with StoreGrid's comprehensive approach to backup management wherein you can execute all your backups & restores from one familiar interface. No longer will IT managers require to have an array of application specific backup tools, especially since StoreGrid additionally supports Exchange Server backups, SQL Server backups and MySQL backups in Linux as well. * Although we can never match 100% like-for-like with another provider we will guarantee to back-up and recover the same quantity of data at the same intervals or better, provide the same Plugins (i.e. Exchange, SQL etc) over the same period as your existing provider, although we may use different, but we believe equally proven methods to do so.
