Windows Mobile is a compact operating system combined with a suite of applications for mobile devices. Such as the XDA range from O2. Devices such as Pocket PCs (PDA's), Smart phones & Portable Media Centre's and even some vehicles! It is very similar to the desktop version of Windows feature wise, and in design, such as a "start" button.
For our customers the best feature of Windows Mobile 5/6/7 (the latest editions) is the ability to perform an 'over the air' synch with Exchange Server 2003/2007/2010.
This means that any new email, contacts, tasks etc are sent to the phone using your data connection, the latest technology called "DirectPush" is similar to the blackberry concept. Your phone maintains a very small but always connected to your Exchange Server, as soon as any email is delivered its on your phone, likewise if you change, create or delete emails, contacts, calendar appointments on your phone, you will see these changes if you access your server via Outlook, Outlook Web Access or another method.
Imagine your a sales rep, you'll be able to reply to your emails while on the road, and any appointment you put into your calendar will be reflected so your colleagues can check your availability - no more double bookings.
With Pocket Version of Word, Excel, Windows Media Player, PowerPoint, MSN Messenger, Hotmail & Outlook as standard you can even open attachments sent to you. You can browse full web pages using Internet Explorer while on the road. There is also thousands of third party applications from all the major players.
Sage ACT! Pocket Edition allows you to take you ACT! Data with you on the road, likewise with Microsoft Business Contac
t Manager Pocket.
All our technicians carry a XDA Windows Mobile 6 Device, all new customers are inputted into our Sage Accounts Package, Sage Accounts is linked to Sage ACT, which is also linked to Microsoft Outlook. Therefore any new client added to Sage is now in our ACT System, its then copied to Microsoft Outlook, and then of course if its in Outlook - its on our mobiles!
We also have TomTom Navigator Mobile installed on all our PDA's with simple Bluetooth GPS devices in our vehicles we can now use SatNav to guide us to our customers - all in one device.
We even have a pocket version of our GeoVision CCTV viewer which allows us to view our CCTV system over-the-air anywhere in the world.
These products aren't expensive, typically you can even get XDA devices free from Orange, T-Mobile, O2 Mobile phone operators as part of a monthly airtime contract. If you are running Exchange 2003/2007 or Small Business Server you have all the kit you need to take advantage of all the excellent features.
Even if your not running Exchange or SBS we offer hosted Exchange solutions or you can also be setup to collect your standard POP3 email, although you will be missing out on the powerful Outlook Integration.
Most PDA versions have some form of stylus (little pen) to help you point to the onscreen icons, some have slide out QWERTY keyboards, but most also have excellent hand writing recognition.
